Our Âé¶¹Íøsport opportunities are based in several locations around campus and external local facilities. You can easily find directions to them on the .

Each of our venues are fully accessible and are equipped with lifts. If you have any specific accessibility needs, a member of our team will be happy to assist you when visiting our facilities. Please email sports@dmu.ac.uk in advance of your visit to ensure that arrangements can be put in place.

Memberships

If you would like to join one or more of Âé¶¹Íøsport's numerous sports teams, you will need to purchase a specific membership for that club, costing £40 or £60 per academic year. All student activity memberships are managed by De Montfort Students Union. You can purchase a Âé¶¹Íøsport Club membership through the Âé¶¹Íø Leisure App

Alternatively, if you'd like to take advantage of the different leisure centre memberships available to students that include access to fitness suites, the climbing wall, our swimming pool and weekly instructor-led exercise classes, you can visit the Âé¶¹Íø Leisure Centre membership page for more information.

  1. American Football

    American Football is an action-packed team sport where strategy meets strength and teams battle to move the ball into the end zone for points through powerful runs, pinpoint passes, and thrilling touchdowns.

    American Football Club

    The American Football Club trains twice a week at Beaumont Park, with additional classroom sessions to sharpen tactics and teamwork. The club are provided with transport to and from training due to distance. They compete in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) league, playing home games at Beaumont Park and travelling across the Midlands for away fixtures on Sundays.

  2. Archery

    Archery is a focused and exciting sport where players use a bow to shoot arrows at a target. It’s all about skill, precision, and control — a fun way to challenge yourself and improve concentration.

    Archery Club

    The Archery Club train three times a week at The Watershed. They compete in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) and external competitions on weekends.

  3. Badminton

    Badminton is a dynamic, fast-paced sport that combines speed, skill, and precision. Whether in singles or doubles, it’s an exciting way to stay active, sharpen reactions, and enjoy competitive fun on court.

    Our Âé¶¹Íøactive Badminton sessions are probably our most popular activity. We put up badminton nets, provide racquets and shuttlecocks and the rest is up to you! If you're a beginner you can learn how to play the game, find a quiet court to play or practice with a friend, or just get stuck in with others to have a bit of fun and meet new people.

    Our Âé¶¹Íøsport Activators will be on hand to greet you and ensure you have a good experience at the weekly Âé¶¹Íøactive Badminton and Âé¶¹Íøactive Female only Badminton sessions taking place. The Badminton Club trains twice a week at the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Leisure Centre (QE2). They compete in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) league, playing home games at QE2 and travelling across the Midlands for away fixtures on Wednesdays.

  4. Basketball

    Basketball is a fast-paced team sport where players work together to score by shooting the ball through the opponent’s hoop. It’s energetic, skilful, and a great way to stay active while having fun with friends.

    Âé¶¹Íøactive Basketball is always lively, great fun and provides the perfect environment to meet new people.

    At our mixed basketball sessions, our Activators will organise you into teams then get straight into playing fun games, so it is a great session for you to meet new people and burn off some energy. It doesn't matter how much basketball you've played before; everyone is welcome.

    At our female only basketball sessions, they are a bit more structured; you will start off by going through some fun drills so you can learn how to play / the rules then you will be able to get stuck into some fun games. It doesn't matter whether you've played before, our Âé¶¹Íøsport Activators will explain how to play and the rules.

    Through Âé¶¹Íøsport Social Leagues you can get involved in competitive social sport with groups of friends, housemates, course mates, society members or any sort of team you can get together. The leagues are student led, are fun and friendly and a great way to stay active whilst balancing your studies and everything else that university life throws at you!     Basketball Club

    The Basketball Club trains twice a week at the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Leisure Centre (QE2) where sessions are split into three squads, Men’s 1st Team, Men’s 2nd Team and Women’s 1st Team. They compete in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) league, playing home games at QE2 and travelling across the Midlands for away fixtures on Wednesdays.

  5. Boxing

    Boxing is a powerful sport that builds strength, speed, and confidence. With a focus on fitness, discipline, and skill, it’s a great way to challenge yourself while learning exciting techniques in a safe and supportive environment.

    Boxing Club

    The Boxing Club trains twice a week at Kings Gym, an external venue provider close to campus. They compete in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) competitions and external competitions across several weekends.

  6. Cheerleading

    Cheerleading is a high-energy team sport that mixes dance, stunts, and tumbling to create exciting, dynamic routines. It’s a fun way to build fitness, confidence, and team spirit while performing together.

    Our Âé¶¹Íøactive Cheer for Fun sessions provide a safe, welcoming and inclusive way to try a new sport, learn a new skill or simply to meet new people whilst you study. At the sessions, our Âé¶¹Íøsport instructors will take you through a range of cheerleading moves and techniques. It doesn't matter if you have never heard or tried cheerleading before; everyone is welcome to come along and give cheer a try!

    Cheerleading Club

    The Cheerleading Club have three squads who trains twice a week across serval venues, both at Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Leisure Centre (QE2) and the Watershed and an external venue provider close to campus called Elite Cheer. They compete in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) competitions and external competitions across several weekends and support with several events across campus.

  7. Climbing

    Climbing is an adventurous sport that challenges you to scale walls using strength, balance, and problem-solving. It’s a fun way to stay active, build confidence, and enjoy the thrill of reaching new heights.

    Our Âé¶¹Íøactive Climbing sessions are a fantastic way to meet new people, learn a new skill and try something you might not otherwise try! The Âé¶¹Íøsport activators and Âé¶¹Íø Leisure Climbing instructors are on hand to show you the ropes and will provide you with a safe, welcoming, learning environment so whether you have never tried Climbing before or have tried it a couple of times, this session is for you!

    Climbing Club

    The Climbing Club trains twice a week at the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Leisure Centre (QE2). They compete in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) competitions, external competitions and lead climbing trips across the academic year.

  8. Cricket

    Cricket is a thrilling bat-and-ball sport where teams compete to score runs by hitting the ball and running between wickets. It’s a game of skill, strategy, and teamwork that brings people together on and off the pitch.

    Âé¶¹Íøactive Indoor Cricket is a great session for you to meet new people and burn off some energy as our activators will organise you into teams then get straight into playing fun games. It doesn't matter how much cricket you've played before; everyone is welcome and our Âé¶¹Íøsport activators are on hand to explain how to play and what the rules are!

    Cricket Club

    The Cricket Club has three squads, including Men's 1st Team, Women’s 1st Team and Men’s Development. The squads' train twice a week at Leicestershire County Cricket Club (LCCC), an external venue provider close to campus. They compete in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) leagues both in indoor and outdoor competitions on Wednesdays.

  9. Dodgeball

    Dodgeball is a fast-paced, fun team sport where players throw balls to hit opponents while dodging incoming throws. It’s energetic, exciting, and perfect for building teamwork and quick reflexes.

    Our Âé¶¹Íøactive Dodgeball sessions provide a great opportunity to blow off some steam! These sessions are a bit more structured; you will start off by going through some fun drills so you can learn how to play, then you'll be able to get stuck into some fun games. It doesn't matter whether you've played before, our Âé¶¹Íøsport Activators will explain how to play and the rules. These sessions are a bit faster paced than others and are great fun to be a part of.

    Dodgeball Club

    The Dodgeball Club train twice a week at The Watershed and Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Leisure Centre (QE2). They compete in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) and external competitions on weekends.

  10. Equestrian

    Equestrian is a thrilling sport that combines riding skill, teamwork, and trust between horse and rider. It’s a fun way to stay active, build confidence, and enjoy the unique bond with these amazing animals.

    Equestrian Club

    The Equestrian Club have three squads who trains once a week at Witham Villa, an external venue provider close to campus. The club are provided with transport to and from training due to distance. They compete in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) competitions and external competitions on Wednesdays.

  11. Football

    Football is a fast-paced team sport where players work together to score goals by kicking the ball into the opponent’s net. It’s energetic, exciting, and a great way to stay active while having fun with friends.

    Men’s Football Club

    The Men’s Football Club have three competitive squads and one development squad, which trains twice a week at Beaumont Park. The club are provided with transport to and from training due to distance. They compete in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) league, playing home games at Beaumont Park and travelling across the Midlands for away fixtures on Wednesdays.     Women’s Football Club

    The Women’s Football Club have one competitive squad and one development squad, which trains twice a week at Beaumont Park. The club are provided with transport to and from training due to distance. They compete in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) league, playing home games at Beaumont Park and travelling across the Midlands for away fixtures on Wednesdays.

  12. Futsal

    Futsal is a fast-paced, skill-packed version of football played indoors on a smaller court with five players on court and rolling subs. It’s all about quick thinking, precise passing, and teamwork, making it fun, energetic, and great for improving your skills.

    It doesn't matter how much football you've played before, everyone is welcome. Also known as Futsal, our Activators will organise you into teams then get straight into playing fun games, so it is a great session for you to meet new people and burn off some energy.

    Futsal

    The Futsal Club have two squads, Men 1st Team and Men’s 2nd Team who train twice a week at The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Leisure Centre (QE2). They compete in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) leagues on Sundays.

  13. Hockey

    Hockey is an exciting team sport where players use sticks to pass, dribble, and shoot a ball or puck to score goals. It’s fast, skilful, and a fun way to stay active while working together with your team.

    Hockey Club

    The Hockey Club have two squads, Men 1st Team and Women’s Team who train once a week at Leicester City Hockey Club (St Margarets Pastures), an external venue provider close to campus. They compete in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) leagues on Wednesdays.

  14. Jiu-Jitsu and self defence

    Jiu-Jitsu is a dynamic martial art that focuses on technique, control, and strategy to overcome opponents. It’s a fun way to build strength, confidence, and self-discipline while learning practical skills.

    Our Âé¶¹Íøactive self-defence sessions are a fantastic way to learn a new skill and develop your confidence. At the sessions, our Âé¶¹Íøsport activators will take you through a range of methods and techniques that you can use to protect yourself or to show off to your friends!

    Jiu-Jitsu Club

    The Jiu-Jitsu Club train twice a week at The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Leisure Centre (QE2). They compete in the external competitions and complete internal club gradings throughout the year.

  15. Karting

    Karting is an adrenaline-packed motorsport where you race small, fast karts around a track. It’s thrilling, competitive, and a fun way to test your speed, skill, and reflexes.

    Karting Club

    The Karting Club do not have a regular training schedule, however, they run multiple events, including internal competitions, driver days and take part in national competitions across the year.

  16. Lacrosse

    Lacrosse is a fast-paced team sport where players use sticks to catch, carry, and shoot a ball to score goals. It’s energetic, skilful, and a fun way to stay active while working together with your team.

    Our Âé¶¹Íøactive Lacrosse sessions provide a safe, welcoming and warm (the sessions are inside) environment to learn how to play Lacrosse, which is a fast-paced, team-based sport played with a stick and a ball. The session is a fantastic opportunity to try a sport you may have not played before and also meet new people!

    Âé¶¹Íøsport activators will be on hand to show you how to play and will teach you the rules plus all equipment is provided.

    The Lacrosse Club have two competitive squad; Men’s 1st Team and Women’s 1st Team, which trains twice a week at Beaumont Park. They compete in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) league, playing home games at Beaumont Park and travelling across the Midlands for away fixtures on Wednesdays.

  17. Netball

    Netball is a fast, team-based sport where players pass the ball and work together to score goals. It’s energetic, fun, and a great way to build teamwork and stay active.

    Our Âé¶¹Íøactive Netball sessions provide a great opportunity to meet new people whilst looking after your wellbeing! These sessions are a bit more structured; you will start off by going through some fun drills so you can learn how to play / the rules then you will be able to get stuck into some fun games. It doesn't matter whether you've played before, our Âé¶¹Íøsport Activators will explain how to play and the rules plus make sure the environment is a safe, welcoming and inclusive one.

    Netball Club

    The Netball Club have two competitive squads, Women’s 1st Team and Women’s 2nd Team and an additional Women’s Development Squad, who train twice a week at The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Leisure Centre (QE2). They compete in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) leagues on Wednesdays.

  18. Pilates

    Âé¶¹Íøactive Pilates is a group exercise class, led by a Âé¶¹Íøsport instructor in one of our studios.

    Pilates is a form of exercise which concentrates on strengthening the body with an emphasis on core strength. This helps to improve general fitness and overall well-being. Similar to Yoga, Pilates concentrates on posture, balance and flexibility. In Pilates the chance of injury is much lower than with other more strenuous forms of exercise.

  19. Rowing

    Rowing is a full-body water sport where teams or individuals race in boats using coordinated rowing strokes. It’s challenging, energizing, and a great way to build strength, teamwork, and endurance.

    Rowing Club

    The Rowing Club have a Senior and Novice Squad, who train three times a week at The Watershed. They compete in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) and external competitions at weekends throughout the year.

  20. Rugby

    Rugby is a fast-paced, physical team sport where players carry, pass, and kick the ball to score tries. It’s exciting, energetic, and a great way to build strength, teamwork, and resilience.

    Mens Rugby Union Club

    The Men’s Rugby Club have one competitive squad which trains once a week at Beaumont Park. The club are provided with transport to and from training due to distance. They compete in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) league, playing home games at Beaumont Park and travelling across the Midlands for away fixtures on Wednesdays.

    Women’s Rugby Union Club

    The Women’s Rugby Club have one competitive squad which trains once a week at Beaumont Park. The club are provided with transport to and from training due to distance. They compete in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) league, playing home games at Beaumont Park and travelling across the Midlands for away fixtures on Wednesdays.

  21. Running and athletics

    Running and athletics is a dynamic sport that includes running, jumping, and throwing events. It’s energetic, fun, and a great way to improve fitness, speed, and strength while challenging yourself.

    Whether you would like to hit a personal best, run for fun or simply would like to meet new people whilst looking after your wellbeing, our Âé¶¹Íøactive Running sessions are for you! You will meet at our Watershed facility, where you can securely leave belongings, then our Âé¶¹Íøsport activators will lead you on a running route. Don’t worry about your pace, our activators will ensure that everyone is able to go at their preferred pace, and you can always walk if you would prefer to!

    Our Âé¶¹Íøactive Couch to 5K sessions are a good starting point if you are looking to get into running, would prefer a slower paced running group or would like to get back into running. The sessions will involve a mix of running and walking, with increasing running intervals each week and our Âé¶¹Íøsport Activators will be on hand to ensure that you have a running plan which works best for you.

    The sessions are a fantastic way to meet like-minded people and achieve something new!

  22. Snowsports

    Snowsports are thrilling winter activities like skiing and snowboarding, where you glide down snowy slopes. They’re fun, energetic, and a great way to challenge yourself while enjoying the outdoors.

    Snowsports Club

    The Snowsports Club do not have a regular training schedule, however, they run several training days across the year at the Snowdome in Tamworth. The club are provided with transport to and from training due to distance.

  23. Swimming

    Swimming is a fun, full-body sport where you move through water using strokes and techniques. It’s energetic, refreshing, and a great way to build fitness, strength, and confidence. Our Âé¶¹Íøactive Swimming sessions provide you with a chance to make use of the 25m swimming pool at Âé¶¹Íø. Whether you are a regular swimmer and just want the opportunity to clock up some meters, or whether you're coming along with a friend for a social swim, you're absolutely welcome.

    You do need to be able to swim in order to attend this session so if you are unable to swim, we would recommend our free Learn to Swim sessions.

    Lockers, changing rooms, showers and hair dryers are available for your use. You'll just need to bring a swimming costume and towel along with you, and don't forget your swimming hat and goggles if you wear them!

    Learn to Swim

    Our Âé¶¹Íøactive Learn to Swim sessions in conjunction with the Adam Redfern Memorial fund provide you with an opportunity to learn a lifesaving skill in a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment. Whether you are scared to get into the water, have never tried to swim before or would like to develop your swimming skills, our Learn to Swim instructors will support you on your swimming journey. We would recommend that if you are not a confident swimmer or have not tried to swim before, you sign up for our Learn to Swim beginner session and if you have a little more confidence and experience, our Learn to Swim intermediate session would be best for you!

  24. Table tennis

    This is probably our session with the most social environment. It's a great place to play some sport with friends, meet new people, test your hand eye coordination and reactions! With multiple tables available to students, you can find your own space to practice or play a game or can mix in with others for some doubles or fun games.

    Table tennis bats and balls are provided so all you need to do is turn up and enjoy!

  25. Taekwondo

    Taekwondo is a dynamic martial art that combines powerful kicks, punches, and self-defence techniques. It’s fun, energetic, and a great way to build fitness, confidence, and discipline.

    Taekwondo Club

    The Taekwondo Club train three times a week at The Watershed. They compete in the external competitions and complete internal club gradings throughout the year.

  26. Tennis

    Tennis is a fast-paced racket sport where players hit a ball over a net to score points. It’s fun, energetic, and a great way to improve skill, fitness, and focus.

    Like all other sessions, you can come along to our Âé¶¹Íøactive Indoor Tennis sessions whether this is your first experience of tennis or if you've played before. The sessions take place in a sports hall on Badminton sized court which provides a fun, relaxing pace game. We provide all the equipment and you'll have a great chance to meet new people!

    Tennis Club

    The Tennis Club train once a week at Knighton Tennis Centre (Sir Johnathan North), an external venue provider close to campus.

  27. Trampolining

    Trampolining is a high-energy sport where you jump, flip, and perform tricks on a trampoline. It’s fun, exciting, and a great way to build fitness, coordination, and confidence.

    The Trampolining Club train twice a week at The Watershed. They compete in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) and external competitions on weekends.

  28. Volleyball

    Volleyball is a fun, fast-paced team sport where players hit a ball over a net to score points. It’s energetic, social, and a great way to stay active while working together with your team.

    Âé¶¹Íøactive Volleyball is a great session. It's a high energy, lively sport and always involves laughter. Our Âé¶¹Íøsport Activators will do everything from explaining the rules and introducing basic passing techniques, to arranging you into teams for some fun gameplay!

    Volleyball Club

    The Volleyball Club have four competitive squads, Men’s 1st Team, Men’s 2nd Team, Women’s 1st Team and Women’s 2nd Team, who train twice a week at The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Leisure Centre (QE2). They compete in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) leagues on Wednesdays.

  29. Yoga

    If you're looking to de-stress, look after your mental wellbeing or improve your body's strength to prevent injury, then we'd definitely recommend Âé¶¹Íøactive Yoga.

    This is another of our group exercise classes. It is a low intensity, full body workout designed to help build strength, flexibility, mobility & posture. Help find your inner peace whilst focusing on breathing & meditation. All movement is a series of flow. We host both Âé¶¹Íøactive Yoga and Âé¶¹Íøactive female only yoga sessions taking place.

  30. Zumba

    Zumba is a form of aerobic fitness exercise based on Latin American dance rhythms – essentially getting your heart rate up whilst learning some handy dance moves!

    Participants are taught some basic, easy-to-learn movements which don't involve memorising complicated balance techniques or body poses and is another of our instructor-led group exercise classes. Have some fun, learn some new moves and listen to an array of music genres!
