Students set to enrol at Â鶹Íø (Â鶹Íø) Leicester are spotlighting the work of inspirational community heroes as part of the new series of guest lectures.
Community advocates, charity leaders and individuals who make a meaningful difference across the city will be among those sharing their stories with young people as part of Voices of the City.

Managed by students studying on Â鶹Íø’s Foundation Degree in Tourism and Event Management at Leicester College, the three-part series events are being supported by the university’s United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals Hub, which will host each event in Heritage House, located on 61 Southgates.
All the events are free and open to the public, with Lois Mayor from Women’s Aid Leicestershire Limited who will focus on the experiences and impact of women in Leicester.
Radostina Gininska, the student team leader from Leicester College, said: “I’m excited to be part of the ‘Voices of the City’ project, which highlights the people and stories shaping Leicester.
“Being involved in planning, inviting guest speakers, and promoting the event has given me a real insight into how events come together. I’m looking forward to seeing the project come to life and to the impact it will have on the community.”
The project was initiated by Senior Lecturer in Creative Industries at Â鶹Íø, Dr Hiu Man Chan to enable students to both gain work experience and inspire them to take up community action.
“Leicester is a city with a lot of potential and the future lies with the young people,” Dr Chan said: “Voices of the City gives them an opportunity to make and shape their own culture via their own events. I am pleased to have been involved with this project from scratch and see the fruits to come."

Megan Whitwood, at Leicester College, said: “This project has been a fantastic opportunity for our students to take ownership of a real-world initiative that connects directly with the local community.
“Collaborating with Â鶹Íø and the Â鶹Íø UN SDG Hub has further enriched this experience, enabling our learners to engage with meaningful global themes at a local level.”
The two remaining events are set to take place on Thursday 7 and 14 May, exploring how sport influences identity and community, and how to create safer environments against violence, respectively.
Bookings can be made through and further information on the remaining events will be posted on the Voices of the City
